ARMOUR CHAPEL
The beautiful Kirkland B. Armour Memorial Chapel at the center of Elmwood Cemetery was built and opened in 1902 by Annie Paynter Hearne Armour, in memory of her husband. The chapel is beautiful, with gorgeous stained glass windows and carved black oak angels. It seats 100 people, and is available for funerals, weddings, or small events. SYMBOLISM TOUR
All of the photographs in this article were taken during a March 2007 visit to the Elmwood Cemetery at 4900 Truman Road, Kansas City, Missouri. My goal in taking these photographs was to capture some of the beautiful and unusual sights that can be found at the cemetery. The symbolism of each grave marker, statue, and tomb is also discussed.

HOUDINI AMAZES POLICE (1900)
At least twenty men who were at the police station to-day are ready to swear henceforth that Houdini, the handcuff expert who is appearing at the Orpheum this week is the most wonderful wizard that ever undertook to get out of a pair of handcuffs. He gave an exhibition this forenoon in the main cell room there before a score of police officers, detectives, newspaper reporters, theatrical men, and interested spectators that well merited the conclusion.

KANSAS ARBORISTS PROJECT
Ivan Katzer and the Kansas Arborists Association to the rescue!!!! He had heard about our cemetery and our trees and the great need we had for help. He spoke with the members of the Association and they decided to have a service project at Elmwood. They made a commitment and received commitments from other tree services in the area. This was a huge effort, and pictures included with this article really illustrate what a special project this was.
